Grimbergen beer has roots that go deep into the history of Grimbergen Abbey, founded in 1128 by the Premonstratensian Order. This abbey experienced terrible vicissitudes, marked by several destructions, but, like a phoenix, it rose from the ashes each time. Throughout its history, the abbey was burned down several times, particularly in 1142 and 1566, but the canons of Prémontré always showed tenacity. In 1831, after a difficult period caused by the French Revolution, monastic life was energetically revived. This ushered in a dynamic era, during which the brewery was integrated into abbey life.
