fa3163 SOchre glazed water jug from Valleruis, vintage
The Foucard family has been established in Vallauris (Alpes-Maritimes) since 1630. The potter André Foucard (1834-1912) has two sons, Jacques (1862-1929) and François (1866-1939). Both work as potters but in different factories. Each one creates his own factory by adding to his name that of his wife: Foucard-Jourdan for François, and Foucard-Terrin for Jacques. The son of François and Baptistine, Joseph (1894-1959), continues the production with his wife Jeanne Rémond (1902-1979) Their daughter Françoise, who has worked with her parents since 1945, took over the factory in 1969. The large wood-fired oven of this pottery was the last of its type in Vallauris to die out in 1983 , and the factory closed in 1995. This pot is stamped Foucard-Jourdan, vallarius, AM.
